Background

Leadership For Skilled Education Foundation (branded as Leadership for Equity, LFE) is a non-profit organisation based in Pune, Maharashtra, working to strengthen India’s public education system so that every child learns and thrives. We envision public education systems that refuse to let children down.
LFE partners with state and district governments across multiple states including Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Haryana to improve teaching practices and build sustained academic support structures within the public system. Our work is anchored in the belief that public education systems are the gatekeepers of social equity, and strengthening them is essential to ensuring that every child has access to strong foundational and future-ready learning.

Approach

LFE’s systems-change approach focuses on improving classroom practice and enabling government ownership through three core levers:
  1. Co-creating high-quality curricular resources and building teacher capacity
  2. Developing academic leadership to coach and mentor teachers
  3. Providing data-driven advisory support and policy implementation guidance
Our model empowers teachers as instructional leaders and embeds long-term support through government-run mentor cadres, continuous classroom observation cycles, and in-system academic structures. Technology plays a critical role, including an in-house Classroom Observation App for real-time monitoring and a WhatsApp-based teacher support chatbot for the delivery of  contextual resource.

The approach is iterative and context-responsive, grounded in classroom realities and tailored to state and district needs. Implementation varies across geographies whether working directly with teachers or through government-appointed mentors ensuring relevance and feasibility within existing structures. A continuous feedback loop of training, observation, and coaching moves beyond one-time interventions toward sustained practice change. All programs are co-designed and co-implemented with government partners to ensure scale, sustainability, and systemic ownership, ultimately leading to improved student learning outcomes in foundational and future literacy.

About the Future Literacy Initiatives (FLI) Project:

Leadership For Equity (LFE) is working to build future-ready public education systems by integrating Computer Science (CS), computational thinking, and technologies such as AI into government schools. As part of its Future Literacy Initiatives, LFE partners with state education departments in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Haryana to design and implement programs that combine large-scale teacher capacity-building with hands-on student learning experiences. The approach goes beyond training and focuses on three interconnected levers: system strengthening, teacher capacity, and experiential learning through labs.
Why does this work matter?
Access to CS and AI learning is often limited to a small segment of students. LFE’s approach ensures that students in government schools are not left behind by combining system-level reform with visible, hands-on learning experiences that make future skills real and accessible.

Key Focus Areas:

1. Large-scale teacher capacity building
LFE designs and implements state-wide training programs to enable teachers to deliver CS and AI concepts confidently. These include cascade models, ongoing reinforcement, and integration within government-led structures.
2. CS/AI Labs and Experiential Learning
LFE supports the creation of CS/AI labs and hands-on learning environments within schools and districts. These labs enable:
  • Activity-based learning in coding, computational thinking, and problem-solving
  • Exposure to real-world applications of technology
  • Student-led exploration through projects, challenges, and hackathons
The labs serve as demonstration and innovation spaces that complement classroom teaching and help translate abstract concepts into practice.
3. System Integration and Sustainability
Programs are embedded within government systems by working closely with SCERTs, DIETs, and district education bodies, ensuring long-term adoption and scale.
4. Ecosystem and Sectoral Partnerships
LFE collaborates with other partners to bring relevant tools, content, and global best practices into public education systems.

About Content and Curriculum Vertical

The Content and Curriculum vertical of LFE focuses on two key areas: developing high-quality educational resources and building stakeholder capacity to use them effectively. This includes creating curriculum frameworks, needs analysis tools, instructional materials, digital content, blended learning courses, training design, and assessment frameworks tailored to program goals. Additionally, the vertical ensures that field teams are trained to implement these resources with the stakeholders.
